📡 THIS WEEK IN CRYPTO
GM, Readers!
Uptober turns sour. BTC crashed from $85.5K to $81K on Oct 7-8 amid back-to-back BTC ETF outflows totaling $731.2M in 48 hours. Even BlackRock’s IBIT bled, and the US government moved 12,267 BTC worth $1.01B from wallets tied to the 2016 Bitfinex seizure.
Let’s get into it...

🐳 THE BIG WHALE MOVES
1. US Govt Moves $1B of Bitfinex-Hack BTC
On Oct 8, on-chain trackers like Lookonchain flagged 12,267 BTC ($1.01B) leaving wallets tied to the US government seizure of the 2016 Bitfinex hack. Earlier on Oct 7, Arkham reported a $470M transfer of BTC, USDT, and WBTC (from Bitfinex and Alameda-related seizures) to likely Coinbase Prime deposit addresses
Whale Intel: Movement is not selling. But a $1B transfer during a drawdown is the kind of overhang that caps rallies. Watch for a follow-on hop to a known exchange cluster.

2. Strategy Adds Another 250 BTC
Strategy acquired 250 BTC for $21.5M at an average price of $86,194 between Oct 5 and Oct 11, lifting total holdings to 848,250 BTC. The company also repurchased $192M of its STRC preferred stock in the same window.

Whale Intel: Even at a slower weekly pace, the largest corporate Bitcoin holder continues stacking. Small consistent buys still matter when you already control more than 4% of supply.

3. Mysterious Whale Rotates BTC Into ETH
A wallet sold 410.14 BTC ($34.16M) on Hyperliquid, then bought 14,341 ETH ($36.14M) across DEXs. A follow-up leg sold another 229 BTC and bought 7,469.8 ETH ($19.1M), bringing the total rotation to roughly $53.26M from BTC into ETH.
Whale Intel: Quiet, sizeable rotation from BTC into ETH during a risk-off week. Either early positioning or a large player reducing BTC beta.

4. Ethereum Foundation Wallets Move ETH to Kraken
Two wallets linked to the Ethereum Foundation deposited 4,393 ETH ($11.13M) into Kraken. The same wallets had received 59,751 ETH from a Foundation address a decade earlier, when ETH traded near $0.90.
Whale Intel: Long-dormant Foundation-linked supply hitting an exchange is rare. Watch whether more of the old allocation follows.

In Partnership With Atlas Salt
Cities Are Running Out of Salt Before Winter Even Starts

Road salt is one of those things nobody thinks about until plow trucks come back empty, and this year that's happening before the first snowfall. Some cities haven't gotten a single bid for winter supply, while others are paying nearly double last year's price.
North America doesn't mine enough of its own, which is why it ships in 8 to 10 million tonnes from places like Egypt and Chile, two weeks away by boat.
Atlas Salt (TSXV: SALT | OTCQX: SALQF) is building a mine in Newfoundland near a deepwater port where ships can reach Boston in three days. With salt, the real cost is in shipping, and CEO Nolan Peterson says the difference is so big that overseas producers could give their salt away and still come out more expensive than Atlas. The project is shovel-ready and projected to generate roughly C$188 million a year in free cash flow.

📊 ETF FLOW WATCH

Oct 1 to Oct 12 spot BTC ETF single-day flows | SoSoValue
Uptober flipped. Spot BTC ETFs opened the month green: $102.67M on Oct 1 and $189.84M on Oct 2. Then came Oct 7 (-$487.07M out), Oct 8 (-$244.13M out), and Oct 12 (-$65.40M out). From Oct 1 to Oct 12, combined BTC ETF outflows topped $886.5M (per SoSoValue).
Whale Intel: Two red days do not confirm a reversal. A positive print by Oct 15, or we slip into the "Rocktober" meme.

🚩 RUG PULL HALL OF SHAME
$7.45M in ETH Vanishes Into Tornado Cash (CryptoBilis Incident)

Less rug pull, more cold-case whale intel. On Oct 9 and 10, on-chain investigator Specter reported that wallets linked to the CryptoBilis supply-chain incident deposited 2,990.3 ETH ($7.45M) into Tornado Cash. The funds were first split across multiple addresses and partly routed via NEAR Intents toward ZEC.
Ledger has confirmed that all verified cases involve devices sold by the Southeast Asian reseller CryptoBilis and is investigating. The company has not officially confirmed the specific 2,990 ETH figure.

Whale Intel: When millions in ETH disappear into Tornado Cash after a hardware-wallet supply-chain incident, treat any device bought from the affected reseller as high-risk.

🔍 CRYPTO CRIMINAL OF THE WEEK
Babak Zanjani: Moving Money for Iran

On Sep 17, the US Treasury (OFAC) sanctioned crypto exchange BitBank, its Iranian financier Babak Zanjani, the exchange's software developer, and three associates. Treasury alleged that Zanjani used BitBank to move hundreds of millions of dollars in Bitcoin to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) between June and July 2026.
Zanjani, previously sentenced to death in Iran in 2016 for a major embezzlement case (sentence later commuted in 2024), has rebuilt a digital-asset network that U.S. authorities now describe as part of Iran's broader "shadow banking" system for the regime.
Whale Intel: Expect major exchanges to screen against this list quickly. Any address that touched BitBank or related entities faces elevated risk of freezes or flags.

🎲 DEGENS ARE BETTING ON...
1. BTC Crosses $100K Before December 2026: 20%
On Oct 12, Kalshi posted that there is only a 20% chance Bitcoin crosses $100,000 before December 2026. With BTC around $83K and under 11 weeks on the clock, traders see the gap as sizable but not catastrophic. A long climb from Uptober cope.
2. Strategy Gets Margin Called in 2026: 4%
On Oct 12, Polymarket listed a 4% probability that MicroStrategy (now Strategy) gets margin called in 2026. The low odds reflect the company's long-dated debt structure and its continued BTC stacking even in drawdowns.
3. Ledger Announces Compensation by Oct 31?
On Oct 12, Polymarket opened a market on whether Ledger will announce compensation or reimbursement for users affected by the CryptoBilis supply-chain incident by October 31.

⚡ QUICK HITS
XRP Ledger fixed a 2015 payment-engine bug that could have created spendable XRP from nothing.
Standard Chartered launches Ripple USD (RLUSD) custody on the XRP Ledger and works with Ripple and LMAX Group to enable it as eligible collateral.
Bitmine adds 12,532 ETH in the past week, bringing total ETH holdings to 6,028,946 ETH (valued at $2,544 per ETH).
SUI Foundation invests $30M in DATA Network as the AI data protocol migrates to Sui Network.
Citi and Coinbase collaborate to connect digital and fiat payments for consumers and corporations.

👁 WHAT TO WATCH NEXT WEEK
Thailand ETF rules go live Oct 16. BTC ETFs need two straight green sessions to kill the Rocktober narrative. Watch IBIT: a second $100M+ outflow day drags spot lower.

Until next Wednesday, keep your keys safe and your leverage lower than your confidence. 🐳
