📡 THIS WEEK IN CRYPTO
GM, Readers!
What a week. The Fed did not move, but crypto behaved as it did. Bitcoin ripped past $77K, ETH cleared $2,500, and short sellers got flattened. A whale sold 7,700 BTC into the strength, BitMine crossed $14.9B in treasury, and a top market maker doubled its short book.
BTC closed Sunday at $77,775, per Coinglass, up 20.6% w/w. Spot BTC ETFs pulled in $1.92B (Aug 21), the largest weekly inflow of 2026.
Let’s get into it...

🐳 THE BIG WHALE MOVES
1. The Mystery Whale Who Cashed Out $576M
Between Aug 19 and 22, an unidentified wallet sold 7,700 BTC, worth about $576M, per Lookonchain. The final leg was a 2,700 BTC dump with BTC near $80K.
Separately, address 3NVeXm deposited 2,555 BTC ($197M) into Binance on Aug 22.
Another whale, bc1qsy, deposited 3,000 BTC to Binance, extending a drip since July 19. Cumulative: 12,513.5 BTC, roughly $850M.
Whale Intel: When BTC is up 20% and whales keep sending coins to exchanges, that is selling into strength.

2. BitMine Crosses $14.9B, Almost at 5% of ETH Supply
On Aug 24, BitMine posted its weekly update: 5,847,611 ETH (up 32,447 for the week), plus 210 BTC and $308M cash. Total portfolio: $14.9B, up from $11.4B a week earlier.
BitMine has bought ETH every week for 14 months straight. Its stack is 4.8% of supply, closing in on the 5% target.
Whale Intel: Corporate ETH treasuries are the anti-degen play. Buy, stake, hold. Boring works.

3. "7 Siblings" Rang the Register on Aug 21
Tracked whale group called "7 Siblings" sold 14,000 ETH for $32.85M at an average of $2,346. The same day, 0xFD10 dumped 11,252 stETH plus 1,824 ETH for $30.78M in USDT.
Combined, about $63.63M of fresh ETH supply hit the market at resistance. Spot ETF inflows absorbed it, but these sellers have been active since 2024.
Whale Intel: Long-tenured whales taking profit at resistance is expected. The tell is whether the buyer sticks around.

4. Wintermute Doubles Down on Shorts
Market maker Wintermute grew its Hyperliquid short book from $146.19M to $190.77M in a week, per Onchain Lens. Top: ETH $53.02M, BTC $30.66M, SOL $22.62M, HYPE $11.43M, XRP $10.19M. Unrealized loss so far: $5.85M.
It could be inventory hedging, or a real read that the rally is exhausted.
Whale Intel: When the biggest liquidity provider adds shorts into strength, watch funding. Positive funding plus growing shorts equals squeeze fuel.

🚩 RUG PULL HALL OF SHAME
Hypervault: The $3.6M Vanishing Act

Today we cover a fresh classic. On Sept 26, 2025, security firm PeckShield flagged $3.6M in abnormal outflows from Hypervault, a yield optimizer on Hyperliquid. Funds were bridged to Ethereum, swapped into ETH, and 752 ETH went through Tornado Cash within hours.
Hypervault's X and Discord accounts went dark almost immediately, according to on-chain commentator Hypingbull.

🔍 CRYPTO CRIMINAL OF THE WEEK
Edward Zimbardi: $165M, Fiji, and a Federal Return Ticket

Edward Zimbardi, 59, of Flowery Branch, Georgia, was deported from Fiji on Aug 14 to face 12 counts of wire fraud, 12 counts of money laundering, and one conspiracy count.
Prosecutors say Zimbardi ran "The Crypto Program" from June 2022 to Aug 2023, promising a guaranteed 25% monthly return on advertising packages. Instead, he allegedly gambled $34M on FX trades, paid earlier investors with newer funds, and bought himself a house, luxury cars, and alimony. Thousands of investors sent more than $165M into wallets he controlled.
Whale Intel: "Guaranteed 25% monthly" is not an investment. It is a self-report.
